Container Conversions For Catering - The Hangar Bar

This conversion project was built for our client to become part of the Airport Hangar Bar just outside of Manchester Airport. Given the internal dimensions required, for this project we had to build from scratch to our client’s size specifications. Standard shipping containers are 8ft wide, so anything wider has to be custom built – this particular unit is 10ft wide and 40ft long.

Container conversions for catering are one of our most popular demands from our clients, but the Hangar Bar project is one of our biggest to date. Starting with a new build container to give a width of 10ft, we then fitted two roller shutter serving hatches in the long side with canopies fitted to protect guests from the elements. Rather than fit container style doors, we just fitted steel personnel doors providing both security and easy access for staff. We also lined out and insulated the container in a variety of materials including stainless steel in the kitchen area, ply and MFC board, with the floor fitted with anti-slip vinyl. Although we did not fit the appliances or internal fittings and fixtures, we did create various apertures in the roof of the container for vents/flues to be fitted later, and provided first fix electrics and access points for water inlets and outlets.

The container was designed to be used as an outdoor bar and food servery in addition to the main premises. It’s location just beside the runway provides the perfect spot to relax before or after a flight. Container conversions for catering are also by our clients as portable, “pop up”, units for temporary events and festivals. This two storey bar conversion has already been on the festival circuit this summer.
